My “Texas School” Class of 2011

August 18th, 2010

I wanted to share with you all the title and content of my 2011 Class at the world renowned “Texas School of Photography”. So here goes…

“Photography with Passion & Let’s get down to Business!”

‘What I will not teach you is how to be me!’ To develop your own style as I have done over the years becomes your USP. Clients book photographers on the ‘feel factor’ and not based on how great an image maker you are. But, if you can be both it means a healthy and successful business. The aim of this program is to open your minds to a wealth of possibilities and encourage you to be creative, reactive and responsive to the needs of your demanding clients. I aim to cover how to pose your subjects with fun and expression by observing life and adapting situations and encouraging ‘predictive’ behaviours. How to light and excite an image with natural light, reflectors, off camera supplementary lighting. How to identify, light and compose dynamically in a variety of locations and situations. How to retouch those ‘key’ images with my favorite Nik Software for that all important ‘Wow!’ factor. And last but not least, how to make money out of our art and craft! My aim is to prepare you to become the photographers you wish to be and yours should to be to have a great time and learn with a smile.

Important note! This course will not only require students to bring their photographic equipment & laptops but also price lists, promotional & marketing material and a maximum of 5 images on a flashdrive for appraisal. It is an ideal introduction for those entering our industry and others who require an update and enthusiasm injection too!

July 6th, 2010

Shooting, learning, fun and fellowship. Only £75 for the day including food! Together with a number of my key colleagues who represent the ‘best of the best’ in photography and training in the UK, we are sick and tired of ‘one hit wonders’ and so called trainers who have been in the business for 5 minutes, no ‘real’ qualifications and then find its so much easier to make money out of photographers than photography!!!!! The superb venue in the heart of Royal Leamington Spa in a most majestic building and offers numerous phtotgraphic opportunities. Later in 2010 I will be conducting further “Masterclasses” and a PPA (Professional Photographers of America) Super Monday Class that will actually be on a Sunday! I am also planning a ‘Mini Convention’ involving some of the best that the UK, Europe and the USA has to offer. Real Trainers offering Real edication so watch this space!

I have put together this day to celebrate moving back to leafy Warwickshire and at a superb venue that just happens to be part of my new home. My goal is for everyone to have a great time both educationally and socially. So what will we be doing?

  • Working with natural light indoors (and hopefully outside too!)
  • Simplifying your Studio Portrait Lighting (We will have indoor set ups too!)
  • Refining your posing for Portraiture and Weddings
  • Powerful & Dynamic Composition
  • Retouching your images for that “WOW” factor

At only £75 with a maximum of 20 delegates this will be a super day. No sitting at the back but total involvement from everyone please! If you have any suggestions for inclusions in this or future programs then please email me and who knows, this could be a regular thing!

To register please go to: http://www.jotform.com/form/1864345180 where you can either pay with ‘PayPal’ or alternatively by cheque to ‘Martin Grahame-Dunn’. Should you wish to pay by Internet Bank Transfer I would be pleased to send you the details on request.

News from Martin – May & June 2010

June 13th, 2010

So much has been happening in the last month that there are a few things I want to share….

On May 17th & 18th in Copenhagen I participated with my dear friends, Kevin Wilson, Mike Ayers and Paul Haley in the company of my many Danish friends in their ‘Inspiration Camp” and National Qualification Judging where we inspired many and qualified a distinguished group of fine photographers. I was shocked, surprised and honored to be made an “Honorary Master of Photo-DK”, the oldest organisation for professional photographers in the world. I remain stunned and honored beyond measure.

From May 2nd – 7th I taught an enthusiastic class of 27 photographers at the Texas School of Photography. More on that in a separate posting on this site. So much to say and unashamedly promote as a unique experience. Comparing it with other offerings in the industry it is a world class leader. For what it costs to attend a London Convention you could fly to Texas, spend a week in a nice hotel being trained by some of the best photographers in the world. Expand your horizons and you will enliven your careers!

Between May 22nd & 28th I participated yet again as a ‘Mentor’ at the photographic education phenomena that is “After Dark”. The brainchild of Dave Junion and Kevin Jordan, these events mount in popularity. I would actively encourage Brits and European to consider attending one or more of these career changing events that present a new face to learning in photography.

And finally, on May 10th I accepted a formal invitation to participate in the International Committee of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) to develop useful international relations, co-operation and eduction to serve photographers worldwide. More on this later…

1950′s Retro Shoot for NPC

April 26th, 2010

I have just returned from a sojourn to Miami for the second “After Dark’ event which was a resounding success (report to follow shortly) and a further lecture series in Palm Beach, Florida. During the second week I undertook a series of 1950′s Retro shoots for my US lab, Northwest Professional Color

from Fargo ND who are celebrating their 38th year in the business.

During conversations at WPPI in March we decided to look at a re-branding with a ‘family values’ and retro feel and so an idea was born. I am now adding a gallery which hopefully will make you smile!

Joined PP of A and PPSNY at long last!

March 23rd, 2010

After many years of doing nothing and chasing nothing in terms of personal professional development, I finally got knobbled into joining both! So, this year I am in pursuit of Speaking Merits and Print Merits to hit the magic ’25′ as fast as I can. If a proportion of my life is to be spent as an educator and practitioner in the USA then I need to play on their field. I have entered my maximum of 4 images in the PPSNY awards (thanks to the fantastic advice and assistance of my partner) and hope to be lucky enough to pick up a few Merits in the coming days. I didn’t think it would but the new challenge has inspired me!

I will keep you posted with the results and I am keeping my fingers crossed for sure!
